NETHER is a mode in the original BIT.TRIP saga, first introduced in BIT.TRIP BEAT, along with HYPER and MEGA. In every level, NETHER is the lowest mode and gives no points, any cut scenes, or any color. When in this mode, the sound effect for any successful action is an old style beep. Regardless of the sounds, none are heard when you make an unsuccessful action. If the player modes down while in NETHER, it results in a GAME OVER. In CORE, the sound of the rhythm can be heard and when you collect rainbow BEATS, the sound of the transition phase can be heard on the Wii Remote.
HUD effects Edit
In BEAT, the HUD is black and white. “NETHER” is not shown in the background.
CORE's NETHER is similar to the one in BEAT, except the screen fades out when you fail to hit 16 BEATS.
VOID has a rather minimalist take on NETHER. The background is just a greyscale static TV screen; when passing a checkpoint, you lose 50,000 points.
RUNNER did not have NETHER mode, but the bonus level can be acted as NETHER.
The HUD here is grey and gun metal all around with a static backdrop added and the mode indicater right of the mode up bar occasionally warps in size.
In FLUX, the HUD is white.
